The Brand New Heavies - Sunset Star (Daytoner Remix)
from the album DUNK YOUR TRUNK REMIXED EP
Pedigree Cuts
This is a remixed track from a digital instrumental album recorded by BNH called DUNK YOUR TRUNK, a 2011 album that was recorded in four days with the intent of members of the television and movie industry utilizing it for their programs and films. "Sunset Star" in its original form of 2 minutes and 37 seconds is a throwback to what Acid Jazz of the 1990s was all about. Cornwall, Britain producer Daytoner takes on the task of remixing the track with a new basesline and extending the track to a 4 minute groover that gives the track a new life for the dancefloor. With a slight latin edge added to the mix, Daytoner's contribution to the DUNK YOUR TRUNK REMIXED EP would be a welcomed addition to those sunny Sunday Brunch sets on the rooftops of NYC. DJs: this runs about 127 bpm, so be prepared to select wisely for programming.

Prince featuring Ledisi
"Ain't Gonna Miss U When U're Gone"
Production : Prince
I have been enjoying some of the more recent music Prince has been putting out as of recent days. This track is definitely a return to the funkiness of royal purpleness of the late 1980s. In listening to the track, I can see myself working this into a old school hip hop set or a funky classics set where there is a musical structure similar to Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl". My only real criticism is that talented vocalist Ledisi is not performing any prominent vocals and is virtually a session/background singer on the track.I just don't even see the reason to even list her as being "featured"
Outside of this, the track is infectious and will make you shake a butt bone. For the DJs, this clocks in at about 109 bpm, so this can find its way into a variety of sets. Welcome back to this version of Prince!
