WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF DJ DOMEWRECKA - THE ORIGINAL CRATEDIGGER!
With more than 25 years of involvement with the music and media industry, Rodney Williams aka DJ Domewrecka has steadily made his presence known to many throughout the world. With a formidable music collection and an ever evolving ability to research and locate information on rare records and recording artists, Domewrecka makes it his goal to share music with everyone and be the epitome of the role he has chosen... The DJ.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Williams first got the music bug from his parents who always brought home 45s and albums and recorded radio broadcasts onto their 8-Track and reel to reel recorders.
"My parents were always playing James Brown, Isaac Hayes, The Temptations and so many others in the house. I used to help my mom put together playlists of 45s to record onto 8-Track. those were the days"
He began collecting his own records around age 5 and it began with two very specific 45s: "Whodunit" by Tavares and "Super Band" by Kool & the Gang. He continued collecting all through his high school years and it was when he reached college that he decided to embark on the journey of being a DJ himself. His earliest experiences were mostly house parties in Brooklyn and eventually moved on to NYC clubs. His first residency was alongside his friend DJ Klever at the original Club After Dark in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
"This was a Thursday night party in Flatbush.. unless we had a major headliner, that was not going to be the best night to play out, but we were young and hungry for opportunity and this was one opportunity that I was always grateful for. When someone believes in you enough to carry a night on the decks, that means that you must have something special going on."
Over the course of the next few years, Williams would hone his skills at venues such as the legendary Tunnel, Club USA, and Webster Hall as well as a two year sting as the co-host of the hip hop radio show "OFF THE TOP" on WGBB 1240 AM. He spent several years as a music journalist in NYC and interviewed a whos who of the music industry including Diddy, Faith Evans, Jay Z, Ice T and many more. Magazines he has written for include Indigo NY, Hydro, FLY!, One Love, BeatDown (one of the first hip hop newspapers) and the original Music.com. He has shared the DJ decks with noted veterans such as Hard Hittin Harry, Soulfinger Sam, DJ Doug Brown and many others. In 2002, Williams began his well known "Sessions In Sound" events at Halcyon in Brooklyn NY and featured several then-up and coming DJs including DJ Fantom, Elan Vytal aka DJ Scientific, DJ Kwala, and DJ Tabu. From 2009 to 2010, he served as the General Manager of York College's (City University of New York) YC Radio, building its audio library from scratch and teaching and instructing students on the use of the audio equipment and techniques in hosting and creating their own radio shows.
After moving back to Brooklyn in mid 2012 after five years of living in Harlem, Domewrecka has been racking up a wide variety of DJ appearances including guest spots for Record Store Day at Halcyon, the all vinyl RECORDnition party with residents Emskee & Easy Mo Bee, the Never Not Working show on East Village Radio, and an opening event for the National Black Public Relations Society of New York. He has graced turntables at Brooklyn bars and lounges such as Macri Park and Tandem Bar; held a 9 month residency at Therapy Wine Bar for the "COFFEE & RECORDS" Sundays and Basic Soul 101 monthly Saturdays; also playing Fridays and Saturday nights at Malbec & Tango House's Tango Bar. Currently, he is the DJ for the online radio show ON THE EDGE W/ KAYDEE BARNETT & FRIENDS and is a rotating resident DJ at the Artists & Fleas Indoor Flea Market in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
In 2014, Williams will continue to stay active in the music and media community with live DJ appearances and his DJ podcasts. He currently has mixes featured at www.mixcloud.com/Domewrecka for your listening pleasure.
"Every single day, you have to do what you can to stay relevant and do what you can to reach as many people as possible. My goal is to be able to touch the hearts and soul of every lover of good music. That's all."
